Hello all and welcome to an experiment.
My name is Zach Rosenthal and I am the owner of this blog. This was kind of an impulsive decision, but it has logic behind it. I enjoy listening to NBA podcasts with experts talking about games, players and some events. For those who do not know me I am an avid NBA watcher and really enjoy talking about basketball in general. I wanted to start this because I feel I can help connect the average, or even die hard fan, to what is happening around the NBA. I understand, and hopefully my readers will, that I do not have access to any type of player news, team news, or anything related to that. All this will be is a reaction based. I won't be reporting anything that occurs around the NBA simply reacting to it. I also feel like running this blog would be easier than trying to set up a podcast and keeping up with that. Ironically, I am not sure how long this blog will last, but if people are interested in my opinions and articles that are written then that's kind of cool. What you can expect from me is to react and give analysis to games and specific players that affect the league. I will also weight in on some NBA discourse. I only want to provide facts sprinkled in with some of my opinion. For those who know, I have played basketball at a high level in my life and I think they would agree with me that I am a "ball knower". Overall, this is something I wanted to do. I am not sure where is will go or how long it will last, but deep down I know that I would regret it if I at least didn't try. As a base line I don't expect very many people to visit this blog, but the one promise I can make is that everything will have effort put into it. That is the only thing I can promise to the readers.
The rest of the overview will be explained in detail below this. The beginning will consist of an overview of the finals. Ironically this will be opinion based as I said above some of it would. Finally I will detail when new blogs and articles will be posted.
As I am writing this the Boston Celtics are currently 40ish hours removed from winning the NBA championship. A historic title run that saw them go 16-3 throughout the postseason. They defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 and from a viewers perspective in a dominant fashion. This post won't go too deep into how the Celtics won, but Kristaps Porzingis is an overwhelming reason why the Celtics were able to dismantle the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games. His injury in game 2 gave the Mavericks a little bit of hope, but ultimately the Celtics had the best team and best top end depth the entire season and this series was an indication of that. Jaylen Brown was named the Bill Russell finals MVP as he played dynamically on both ends of the floor. Jayson Tatum was also able to submit himself in Celtics history as he adds an NBA title to already impressive resume at the age of 26. Al Horford is no longer the player with the most playoff games played without a title as the 38 year old gets his first title. Jrue Holiday and Derrick White were able to provide a spark on both ends of the floor and were able to prove themselves throughout the entire season as the best defensive backcourt in the league. At a glance the Boston Celtics should be the early on favorites for the 2024-2025 NBA season and they have rightfully earned it. However, there is an offseason ahead of us and many, if not every single team, will be looking to show signs of winning the Larry O'Brien Trophy next year.
Throughout the offseason I will be releasing an offseason wish list, guide, or whatever you want to call it on each team throughout the weeks. I admit some weeks will have more "guides" than others. These guides will detail important players to the teams success, where they stand against the salary cap, ex. first, second apron, important players to retain, development, or sign in free agency. I will admit I won't bore people trying to explain the Collective Bargaining Agreement, I'll also admit that thing is really hard to read and understand lol. As news comes out for teams I will release updates on anything that takes place separate of the offseason guide. It is important for fans to understand that currently teams can talk to there own players, however they are not allowed to talk to other teams players. If teams do they can be fined, or punished by losing a future draft pick. So theoretically, the offseason has officially started. Also, arguably the most important event of the offseason is the NBA draft. I will release something separate to that and everything that takes place June 26-27.
Obviously some weeks will have more posts than others, but I will try to maintain a consistent schedule on what will/can/should happen in my opinion with each NBA team this offseason. Any news that happens after a team's guide is released will be updated on both an offseason recap that will be written a week or so before the 2024-2025 NBA starts and also in a news slot that will be updated once every week or every other week. Guides will mostly contain a recap of a teams year, player(s) who surprised me, or the opposite, team needs, future contracts, and key player development.
Unfortunately throughout the offseason I won't be able to provide a deep dive into why teams are good or bad and what they are doing well or what they're not doing well. Obviously, some teams will already be looking to the 2025 draft, but I still want to give each team a summary of what I think some teams should do during the offseason. Readers enjoy.
